Things Lately

  • Has figured out how to take off his clothes by himself.  Many of times I will get him out of his bed and he'll just be bouncing side to side in nothing but a diaper thinking he is the funniest thing in the world.
  • Loves climbing on our bed and cuddling for two seconds, wiggling around, injuring one of us in the process then cuddling again for two seconds then starting the process over and over.  He really loves running his fingers through my hair- though it does hurt, he kind does more of a pull than a soft touch.  He also loves hitting John on the stomach and laughing.
  • is BITING. When he gets really upset he will start shaking all over and grab the person closest to him and clench!  The first couple times it was kind of funny because John and I have never seen him angry before, but now we are working on it.
  • thinks getting dressed is a game of chase. As soon as he sees me coming, he streaks down the hallway, hands flung in the air like he just don't care, and bums cheeks clenched, laughing hysterically.
  • Is trying to talk more.  He says, "hello" with rolling his tongue.  I love hearing him imitate our voice influxes and try to talk to us.
  • is a pill at church. Oh, church is long these days!
  • is the funnest to wrestle and play cars with.

  • has been Mr. Christmas Spirit at our house. He loves the Christmas songs and books and lives for special time (when we do advent calendars.)  The other day he sang, "Deck the hall with owls of holly falllalalala (repeat two more times then in the same Deck the Halls tune ...) And a partridge in a partridge in a pear tree, falalalalalalala!
  • Is beyond excited that his birthday is coming up.  He has the most elaborate ideas of what is going to take place.  So far, we are going to have a real t-rex, so I am sure it will be a rockin party.
  • Is my morning person, always the first awake and always the one to wake e v e r y o n e else up.  We are all cranky and he is as chipper as can be.
  • takes about three baths a day because he likes to pretend he is a turtle or a water dinosaur.
  • Keeps telling everyone he is getting coal because he keeps making bad choices.  Usually when I get upset with something he does I will say, "that was a bad choice, Johnny." I guess he can put two and two together.
  • Loves PB&J sandwiches.
  • Likes to pretend to be Kevin from Home Alone.  Has laid out cars by my entry way, made dental floss traps- all the while saying "Those bad guys aren't going to get me! Yeah, I'm Kevin."
  • Calls William Baby Boo Boo.

  • Lives for ballet each Tuesday night.
  • Has yet to hop off the Frozen bandwagon #pleasedisneycomeupwithanewprincess
  • Is stressing out about gifts she is giving others for Christmas
  • Made the cutest snowman yesterday on her own and hung it on our front door so people would know that we like to have fun.
  • Is dreading vacation from school, she loves school.
  • Is reading on her own very well, it finally just clicked and it is the weirdest thing. Now, she will just ask about hard words.  Though I have been waiting for this, I am surprised at how sad I am that she is growing so fast.  Excited for her all the same.
  • Has a new friend at church, Maddie.
  • Likes playing with dolls and her disney princess clip-dress dolls.
  • Is the best, seriously, THE BEST helper in the whole world. She loves cleaning, and is awesome at getting things even her dad misses!

  • Sold his "drug truck" (as I call it) and 80's three wheeler yesterday so he can go down to Twin Falls tomorrow and purchase a suburban to either sell or keep, we are not sure.
  • Is filling out an application for an LLM program (masters you get once you have a law degree to specialize) in Counter-Terrorism and National Security.  If he does get in a program, we will be east-bound.
  • Has loved his time at the US Attorney's office. He has gotten to work on a lot of cool cases, a blog post I have been working on forever- will post soon hopefully.  He will continue interning there through next semester as he starts taking classes again next semester- then graduation in MAY!
  • Is seriously the best husband in the world, like seriously...don't know how I would do anything with out that guy.
  • still plays basketball three mornings a week.
  • teaches Sunday School with me. We teach 12/13 year-olds. So fun. Though, they are so, so, so chatty.
  • Is on a thai food kick these days and keeps trying new recipes.

  • Is way ahead of the ball game for Christmas shopping- go me!
  • Finished her 102nd semester (though not really) of school, and is registered for Adolescent Development and Foundations Capstone (a research course) for Winter 2015. After winter, I will have 13 more credits and plan to graduate next May (2015). Like for real this time.
  • Hmmm, what else is new with me? Been on a huge mashed potatoes and gravy kick.  Yeah, that is how exciting my life is.
  • Is planning Caity's class party today. Every time I go help out, I am amazed at how effortless kindergarten teachers make it look.
  • Is determined to get some reading in this Christmas break. My first is "Call the Midwife." Then from there, I don't know there are so many...we'll have to see.
  • Has been a rockstar about family dinners- like, I know that isn't that big of deal, but I really feel like I deserve a patch on my motherhood sash or something.
Mostly, things are just going and going pretty well.  I feel lucky and blessed to live this life and hope I don't take it for granted, because I am sure I do.

My Little Christmas Bakers

This morning, I finished my last paper for the semester- YAY! It is one of those stresses that you don't realize is gnawing at you until it is gone and you suddenly feel as free as a bird. So, happy day for this girl.  I suddenly felt like I had so much time.  I exercised, wrapped some presents, then well, then I just laid down and read books with the kids because it was nice to just take a breather, you know?
Parenting fail: I missed Caity's singing performance today.  I thought it was two days ago and waited outside her classroom in the cold, thought it was yesterday did the same, it was today and I was late and missed it.  She was so disappointed and I felt bad.  She reminded me about twenty five times through out the day too! Bah. Next time.
Last year, my mom sent us and Elf on the Shelf. His name is Sammy. He isn't quite as creative as the other elves, but he has found some pretty innovative hiding spots if you ask me. This year, my mom sent us a Baking with Elf set. A part of me hates the whole marketing scheme of the Elf, but the other part of me can't get over how cute these little baker outfits are!
We made chocolate cupcakes with red sprinkles. It had us feeling all full of holiday cheer and stuff.

Our elf, Sammy.

Baker's corner.
Johnny sneaking frosting...the whole time.

And our designated taste tester!

Johnny's Christmas Bucket List

Johnny has quite the idea of needs to happen before we wake up Christmas morning.  He was listing everything off for me, so I ran quick to grab a camera.  He makes me smile, that boy.  I know, I am probably the only person who will watch this....then watch it again...and again...then make John watch it again, but I just love capturing his thought process.
I know it sounds like I told him to say it, but in the bucket list before I started videoing Johnny said, "And number four- we have to have Christmas Spirits."  That made me laugh. I wasn't sure if he meant alcohol, the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, or if we just needed to have the spirit of Christmas.
I mentioned it before, but Johnny's new "swear word" is Bah Humbug! If he is stuck or he falls he'll make sure to exclaim, "BAH HumBUG!"

In other news, not a night goes by that I don't find Johnny sneaking into Caity's room for story time.  I kind of want to be like, "Get in bed you crazies!" but I am mostly just so excited that a)they are getting along and b)Caity is reading, and to her brother.
This moment is one of my happy places.
(this Charlie Brown book is read by my brother, Matt. Johnny just likes listening to the front page over and over because it says "Read by Uncle Matt." and he says, "HAHA! Uncle MATT!" It is the favorite at our house this year.)

Cate-rina, Ballerina

Yesterday, we got to go to Caity's ballet class for a mini- Christmas recital. Oh, it was the cutest thing ever.
Ballet has been a fun activity for Caity and she has really come out of her comfort zone.

With that said, she was maybe two beats behind the rest of the class the whole time! And she may have had her tongue out of her mouth synchronized with which way her toes were pointing, but John and I couldn't have been more proud! Clearly, she was our daughter. :)

Oh, Christmas Tree! Oh, Christmas Tree!

When the Larsens invited us to Costco to go Christmas tree shopping, my kids about lost it. Christmas trees and hot dogs with some of their favorite people? Yeah, they were excited.  We originally planned on going up into the mountains to find a Charlie Brown tree of our own, so when we saw all the beautiful trees at Costco, I was in Christmas tree heaven. They were beautiful!
We had a lot of fun hanging out with family and the outing made for great memories.

Here is Caity with the finished tree....Johnny refused to get in the picture, meanwhile, William was off throwing things down the heating vent, sooo, thank goodness for Caity!

The missionaries were over when we decorated the tree, so that was fun, despite their lack of appreciation toward my modge-podge-random ornaments- what? I'm a sentimental person!
Here are the FEW pictures we got of the night:
I know, this is the most random picture ever- I love that Caity is wearing shorts and a t-shirt despite the 30 degree weather, I also love that you can kind of see Wills pushing the ornament box lid, that was his favorite thing that night- we all contribute in our own way.

It was Johnny's turn to put on the angel this year, he didn't let the thing go all night.

Three things I love about this picture: The Angel- it was a gift from my grandmother, Johnny's face, an the fact that John is lifting Johnny by his pants.

Here are some of my favorite ornaments every year. Our first Christmas (2007), Caity's first Christmas (2008), Johnny's first Christmas (2011), and William's First Christmas (2013).

Every year, we let the kids go choose out a new ornament. This year, Caity chose the "little friend girl, She is just so cute and like, darling." Johnny wanted something sparkly and man, was he picky.  Every ornament we showed him he would exclaim, "Bah humbug!" He finally settled on a "J" but he actually calls it "My H ornament." So, I'm failing in that regard, I suppose.  William's is my favorite. It is a rainbow lion, he loves it and was pretty NOT excited to put it on a part of the tree he can't reach. :)

I got this foam tree craft at Target last year for 90% off, it was worth storing that thing because we had a great time decorating it.

We also had Christmas tree waffles again this year- I love this little tradition.

The only thing I really collect is Christmas ornaments, so putting the ornaments on the tree is one of my favorite things to do every year.  Every time I look at that tree I get a smile on my face that comes from deep down, in the tree are so many memories from the ornaments themselves to the clusters of Johnny's favorite about three feet off the ground- it isn't fancy, but is just perfect for this girl.
Christmas is great.

Visiting Santa

We are Santa fans at our house.
When my Aunt Janae invited us to her church party to meet the jolly man himself, we were more than on board! It was such a fun get together and we really enjoyed all the festivities
The pictures are from by cousin because the awesome mom in me forgot a camera! Ha! Thank you Katie.
Here is all the kids with Santa Claus.  The boys were digging their candy canes, clearly.

As soon as Santa walked into the gym, Johnny ran right in with the other kids trailing behind him.  Johnny was smiling so big, it was the cutest thing.  When he was next in line, he just stood there holding his hands together, beaming.  When he sat on Santa's lap he asked for a robot.

Caity was curious to see if this was the real Santa or not.  She decided if it wasn't the real one, he must have at least been Santa's brother, because he seemed real.  She asked for sparkly lipstick. News to her mom, that one. Santa told her she had been a good girl, and she said, "What? Have you been talking to Sammy?" (Our house "Elf")

William just didn't know what to make of the whole situation.  He was pretty pleased he got a candy cane out of the deal though.

After the party, we went home and worked on school work and things for church. Then, we went and had dinner with the Stotts. It was a great Saturday.

Christmas 2014

Visiting Santa!

At Caity's class pajama party eating bagel snowmen

Visiting my grandparents with James and Tayci's family.

All ready for church!

Christmas Eve was fun this year.
I could not for the life of me get a good picture of my kids in their pajamas. I think they were pretty wired with excitement.

Johnny got dad a tool from Harbor Freight, he was pretty excited about it. He got me a "banilla" candle.

These are teh only pictures I got before my camera died!
Santa must found a lot of duplos on craigslist for a really good deal, because holy cow!

These little dolls were a labor of love. I made a goal that every year the kids would each get something homemade, here is what I mustered this year. Their names we found out later are (from right to left) Alice, Spike and Cheerio.

And theeen, my camera died. It was an awesome Christmas though!
