Ward Menu

My sister-in-law found these old ward directories from BYU-Idaho, while cleaning out some boxes. What a flash back!
I remember looking at this picture when I had a crush on John and thinking he was so cute.

Then the 319 girls! What a fun apartment that was!
It feels like just yesterday, yet it was eight years ago. Crazy.

"Helpful"

Dear William,

You, my squishy-thigh friend...are a little terror! Though you don't mean to be...
In your mind you are quite helpful. So maybe I should take a moment to thank you for all your hard work lately! Thank you for "reorganizing" all the books on my book shelf.  I know it occupied you for about thirty minutes and you were breathing pretty hard- it was laborious work for an 18 month old.
Thank you for helping me with dinner.  I totally forgot that once the enchiladas were rolled up and placed in the pan, they then needed to be picked up again, shaken so the filling falls out, and thrown into a pot and stirred up.
Thank you for getting the flour out for me when I was making cookies.  I don't know why I put it away after adding it to the recipe. Sure some of it (all of it) spilled all over the floor, but I could tell you were just as frustrated as I was with that complication because you growled. I'm grateful you made the most of the situation and used the cookie cutters to make shapes in the flour-blanketed kitchen floor.
I know Dad really appreciates your help in the garage. Sure, we have had to replace like 8 tools because who knows where you crate them off to, but what would our Dodge Neon (The Hulk) be with out a dent or two from your handyman skills with that wrench as tall as you are. On that note, thank you for trying to clean up the oil you traced into the house. With my white shirt you pulled from the dryer. You are so innovative sometimes.
Speaking of which, thanks for cleaning the back window. Next time talk to me first though, so I can show you the difference between cooking spray and windex.
Have I mentioned how much I appreciate you rearranging everything in the kitchen? You know, I never really used those bowls you broke yesterday anyway! Also, why use the fridge doors when you can keep all the condiments on a shelf with the milk. You were so proud of your self for accomplishing that, and you know what- so am I!
I could go on forever, from your assistance in putting away laundry (aka-emptying drawers as I work) to you helping me sweep (aka- flinging my pile all over the floor again) to reorganizing the bathroom cupboards...but I'll just end with this one: Thanks buddy for organizing mom and dad's shoes....in the bathtub. That one kept you busy for a while. I am particularly impressed you kept all of them in pairs and that you performed the task in mom's red rain boots. When I suggested we put them back, you looked at me like was crazy and babbled at me what I assume to be "Are you kidding me? The shoes look so good in here! Besides, now I can play in your closet floor!"

William, I'll be honest....I chase you around most days as the self appointed Hurricane William Damage Control Team. But then you give me that big smile and I think about I wouldn't spend my days any other way. Except cuddling, why don't you cuddle??? :)

A bike ride

As fate would have it, the day after we sold our van (yay!) the suburban's ignition switch went out. Naturally, I was stuck Tuesday without a car and a million places to be in a short time period. It was definitely a run around sort of day (literally!) Part of the time solution involved pulling out our bikes.  I hadn't pulled a trailer pregnant so I was a little weary about the idea, but turned it out, it wasn't so bad (until the next day- haha.)
As we were riding bikes to Caity's ballet, she asked, "Does it hurt to ride with a baby in there?"
I said, "No, but I do probably look a little silly!"
She replied, "No! You don't look silly! You just look like a mom, who's kind of fat, that likes to have fun with her kids while her husband is at work."
That was a relief.
She looked so cute in her little ballet outfit! And it was such a beautiful day!

The boys had fun in the bike trailer, there was a lot of laughing and Johnny yelling, "I'm going faster than a fire truck!"  William absolutely loved it, and was perfectly content the whole time.

Just kidding. He was hot mess trying to break free every time we stopped- thank goodness for the harnesses seat belts!

However, he crashed by the time we rolled into the garage.

While I tried to collect my out-of-shape-self in a camping chair, the kids road their bikes up and down our cul de sac. I really love sunny days like this!

Johnny's Last Day of Preschool

Johnny just walked into my room and said, "Did Old Mcdonald really own a farm?" I told him I thought so, since we have a song about him. He responded, "Then, what? He just decided to kill all the cows and make cheese'boogers'? Because cheese'boogers' can be made of cows, and they can be made of elk."
He is one smart cookie, and it has been fun watching his knowledge grow even further as he has attended preschool the last couple months.  There has been a sorrowing countdown the last week as we edged closer to his last day.  He just loves going!  I have loved watching his eager face every morning in his little back-pack as he waved good-bye walking up the long driveway to his teacher's front door, more often than not with a little trinket-gift hiding behind his back to award her for being one of his favorite people in the world. (My! How I appreciate teachers and their positive influence in my kids' lives!)
There was a little ceremony yesterday where Johnny got a certificate and Ms. Susan told a little bit about him. It was so much fun, I decided to post the video!

Stylin, Joseph and a Bouncy Toddler

Style Preferences.
Caity and I are moving into a stage where her hair is a constant negotiation. I knew she would have her own opinion eventually, but it kills me a little inside. Luckily, she is usually pretty lenient, but most days (like the one above) she just wants a "plain- you know, like big girl head band."
She also feels SO COOL to have her jacket tied around her waist. Like, SO cool. Like, it was almost 80 degrees yesterday but she wanted to bring her jacket just in case, aka, she wanted to tie it around her waist.  I thought it was cute.

The kids have been playing Superhero family lately. Johnny told me "You are super grandma but I will call you 'Mommy' for short, OK?"  Yesterday he knocked on my door and said, "Mom, I'm tired of being Superman, so I'm just gonna be Joseph now." (As in Mary and Joseph.) That cracked me up.

William is happiest when he is moving. The entire time we were on the trampoline he had this face expression. He loves walks and swings, as soon as the swing moves- he is laughing. His little run is still my favorite, even if he is running the opposite direction of where I need him!

And Then He Graduated Law School...

Ladies and Gentlemen...we have a law school graduate in our midsts!
I couldn't be more proud of this guy. Three years have gone by so fast, and yet at the time they never felt like they would end!
It seems like just yesterday we were pulling our entire life behind Sally in a huge, smelly, homemade trailer and unloading into University of Idaho's student family housing.
I don't think we had any idea what was ahead of us, from Moscow, to Seattle, back to Moscow, to Denver, then Boise.  We started as a family of four and are ending as an almost- family of six!  We've  had times where wondered how we were going to pay rent or for groceries- yet, somehow it always worked out. We grew closer as a family and though it was John attending school, it was a learning and growing time for all of us, and I am grateful for all we have gained.
It is fun to look back on how much we have grown, especially John. I sound like a broken record but I am so proud of all the work he has put in the last three years and yet still always making time for his family. I just love that guy. Good Job, John! We are proud of you!

(johnny got pretty tired and was ready to crash before the ceremony even started. Unfortunately the band playing the prelude music was a little too loud for his liking.)

How could we have survived law school without the Stotts?? Glad we got a picture with them! (AKA-thanks Whitney for making sure we got a picture together! :) )

To celebrate we went out to a Thai restaurant by the office John has been interning at, since that is John's favorite cuisine these days.  After the ceremony we went to get frozen yogurt with my Aunt Janae and her family which was a nice "cool down" for a long day.  It was just such a fun day of celebrating. Unfortunately, John still had finals for the next couple of weeks, so on the last REAL day of school, I made him an apple pie because I must love him or something! :)
Today, John starts Bar Prep classes- oy vey! Here we go!!
