Saturday Night Worship

Saturday morning was full of homework, sewing lessons, melty-beads, reading books and saying, "No, not today" the fifteen times my kids asked to watch TV.
Saturday afternoon was full of spraying, wiping, scrubbing, vaccuming, organizing, dusting, and saying, "What do you think?" the fifteen more times my kids asked to watch TV.  (They thought "no." They were right.)
Then Saturday evening finally came.
John came home from work, Caity and I dressed into our "Sunday Best," and left those crazy boys behind to go on biking adventures with their dad. We were on our way to the Latter Saint Women's Session of Conference.
We went out for a quick dinner on our way to the meeting and had what we called "Brassell Women's Council." We talked about the general climate of our home and thought of questions we could bring to the meeting.  It was really great to see things through Caity's perspective and hear her questions about God. I love being a witness as she navigates through this world.

The moment we sat down in the dark stake center to listen to the Women's Conference, I felt this fortifying strength.  How grateful I am to be a woman!  How grateful I am to all the women in my life that magnify the significance women play in God's plan.
I didn't realize the burden I was carrying until I sat and drank in the good words that were spoken to my heart.
Things aren't always perfect in my life...well, are they ever? BUT, I am happy. I find JOY through the gospel. I left conference holding Caity's hand, promising God I would show Him and those around me more openly the happiness I feel amid struggles. The happiness I have because of my Savior, Jesus Christ. To find Him, is to see the good in my life, and to see the hope for the future amid the unknown. I am confident in my Savior, and I want to live worthy of the confidence He has shown in me time and time again.
So excited for the remaining sessions of conference this weekend!

Caity Elizabeth is NINE

A month after we moved to Hillsboro, Caity turned nine!!
Memories I want to jot down about the day:
It was the Sunday before school started.
Because it was fast Sunday, and she wasn't going to eat breakfast, the whole family went to IHOP Saturday night, where Caity chose strawberry crepes (her favorite.)
She told me she was too grown up for themes now, but still wanted it to feel like a birthday.
She got a new, bright birthday dress to wear to church.
For lunch, she chose homemade Mac & Cheese, mummy hot dogs, juice, and a treat.
She loved getting phone calls from everyone.
For dinner she had homemade chicken noodle soup and homemade rolls.
Her cake was "Better than Anything" cake.
Her main gift was a sewing machine! (She has used it like crazy since then.)
Our new friends, the Osbornes, stopped by and stayed to play for a while, which was fun.

Dear Caity:
You are my lifeline among a house of boys. So many times you see a need before anyone realizes it and you get to work right away. I'm so grateful for your empathetic, resilient, fun spirit. The older you get, the more of a close friend you are becoming. I love talking with you, laughing with you and learning with you. Thank you for being such a leader in our family. We love you around here!!

Love,
Mom
