Another Halloween come and gone. Nostalgia washes over me like steady waves crashing into the beach. Oh how I wish I could save the memories of this October in such a way that if I closed my eyes and really concentrated I could one day step back into this moment in time and relive it all again. This year feels like sand slipping through my fingers as this season of life with of “all my kids at home” will likely end in a couple years. There are so many moments of Halloween 2024 I will cherish.
- The way Emma’s bumble bee dress would sashay as she ran up to the door in her little rubber boots. Her excitement with candy in her hand as she climbed back into the stroller.
- Cate laughing with Caiden as the goofed around our house after trick or treating with Dahlia and Lily.
- Johnny and is crew of teenage boys running around the neighborhood, and as I ran into other boys from his school and hearing “where’s Johnny??”
- Johnny and his friends cheering when they would trick or treat at a teacher’s house.
- Emma’s squeals of delight whenever we ran into her brothers and their friends on the streets.
- Matthew’s sweetness as he ran up to the doors in his policeman costume, then would turn around and say “come on Emma!”
- William, Luke and Grady feeling like they owned the world running from house to house.
- Watching Charlie Brown while cuddling in pajamas after everyone left as we ate treats before bed.
- Coming home from trick or treating to seeing my house over flowing with friends. (When I left no one had arrived yet.)
- All the boys and their friends getting in the hot tub after they finished trading candy.
- Emma organizing and reorganizing everything in the kitchen. From dishing up stew to placing cherry tomatoes in a bowl then back on the tray.
- Watching all the food disappear as people came and socialized.
- Seeing my sweet sunbeams out trick or treating.
- Having the young women in my class come to my house to hang out while they trick or treated.
- Cate looking so beautiful and grown up in her butterfly costume.
- Johnny’s friend telling me he looks forward to my Apple cider every year.
- Caity’s friend saying he missed my homemade rolls.
- Helping gather supplies for Matthew’s class party.
- Making witch hat donuts for breakfast
- Reading Halloween books to Emma, Matthew, and William.
- Watching the second Harry Potter movie after finishing the read aloud to William and Matthew.
- The fun Halloween lunch packed for the kids.
- The way Emma’s antennae bobbed as she ran.
- The leaves crunching under foot.
- The cheesy (and probably tired) Halloween decorations strung across the house.
- John taking Emma around for the trunk or treat
- Johnny and max winning a costume contest as bacon and Eggs.
- Johnny dressed up as a Walrus for his band concert.
- Doing Cate’s costume make up.
- Matthew going to a friend’s party and telling me I’m under arrest every time I noticed I was a mile over the speed limit.
- William considering being Harry Potter, then Santa, then landing on A Baby again.
- Beautiful October weather, rain but mostly breezy sunshine

Johnny let Truman borrow his bacon costume so he could be a Walrus while Max was Eggs. Johnny and Max won a Halloween costume for funniest costume as Bacon and Eggs and they were pretty stoked. There were about 12 boys in their truck or treating group!
William, Luke and Grady. They ran into a few other fifth grade flusters of boys and were living their best life staying out later than the rest of the kids.
