First Day of School 2018

And like that, a new school year has started. We woke up and got dressed in our meticulously chosen "school clothes" Johnny put on the shoes that did NOT fit him a month ago, and now do- that blew my mind. We made eggs, we cried over eggs. We did hair, we cried over hair. A lot of emotions over here. The excitement and the nerves buzzed like electricity as we walked to school.
Johnny is starting second grade.
Favorite quote from him last night: "I'm trying decide if I want to look nice on my first day, or if I like want to look like myself- you know, my sports clothes."
Also from Johnny: "I'm excited for school, also nervous because I don't know if there will be like, bullies in my class. But I AM good at making friends, soooo (nods head side to side as if to say, it's a toss up.)"

Caity is starting fourth grade.
Caity HATES change but she is getting so good and moving with the flow and being brave. I was so proud of her as she talked through how she was going to make through the first few days.

John walked with us half the way. He is such a good dad. :)

The kind of speed walked/ran most of the way. Such a different vibe compared to last year, when it was a completely new school. They new what to expect and I could just see their wheels turning as we got closer to the school.

Caity and I LOVE these flowers, she wanted her first day of school picture to be in front of them. But then once we got there I had to go "super quick because we are WATCHING us mom."

We got the gym and they were OFF! No looking back. So much for the good bye hug I was hoping for, ha ha.

I watched Johnny walk down the 2nd grade line looking for a face he recognized. It is hard that he was in a split class last year, he doesn't know as many second graders. As soon as he sat down in the back, his best friend, Travis showed up! They were so excited, and my momma heart felt so much relief like, "OK, he found his people."

Despite her fears that her friend, Rowan, would forget her over the summer, it looks like they picked up where they left off! Again, I am so grateful for good friends.
As the grades left for classes, Johnny came pass me and right as I was snapping a picture, he got out of formation to give me a hug! Just melt my heart!

Then I left the gym with William and Matthew, and felt like I was forgetting something, ha ha.
I have a feeling these two will keep me plenty busy for the next eight months!

Yay for school!!
