10-10-2020

This morning I woke up to the sound of rain and the smell of wet grass. It hit that ticklish part of my soul; and like a reflex, I felt the smile in heart overflow to a genuine grin on my face. I eagerly stood on my bed to check outside my window, and sure enough, rain beads raced along the pane. The colors outside looked more vibrant and alive. I feel like rain is Mother Nature's little cosmetic compact, and it's as if I woke up to her powdering her nose as I took in the spectrum of greens, yellows, reds, oranges and pinks. Then I laid back down as content as any Pacific Northwest girl could possibly be.

Yesterday we hiked Mt. Mcloughlin. We were all very sore this morning and felt pretty accomplished by the time we simply made it to the breakfast table. John made us french toast before he headed for the office. We opened all the windows so autumn could continue serenading us with its pitter-patters.

Regular Saturday work and play commenced. I thought about how much I have to be grateful for right now. Though I know online distance learning is not always ideal, I really love having my kids home. They are busy and productive in the morning getting school work done, and are free in the afternoons. I get to see them throughout the day and I love them calling me over to tell me something they are excited about. Afternoons are spent with neighborhood kids running in and out of the house, Halloween themed snacks, card games, and reading picture books. I've said it already, but I really love having them home. It's not always perfect and dreamy, and some days are hard, but I am so grateful for them, and I don't want to forget this (sometimes fleeting) feeling of contentment.

I had a Relief Society meeting and baptism, Caity had a talk to work on for church, John had some yard work and to shuffle some cars around to fit our trailer, William and Matthew had some pokemon cards to trade, and Johnny some legos to build.

In the early evening, we sat on the couch we a large stack of Halloween books we got in the mail, it was probably the highlight of my day!

At the end of the day we had a pizza party to celebrate our climb, then we watched the live action Cinderella. John and I walked the dog then tucked the kids in bed.

God is good.

And here are some pictures of General Conference, which may I add, was probably one of my favorites of all time. It was so what I needed and really helped me prioritize what is most important: my relationship with my Savior and what God would have me focus on.

Man, that first paragraph was SO descriptive and well written--seriously, you have *such* a way with words. Rainy days are the just the best, aren't they--especially with the smoky air. Calvin told me yesterday (it was rainy here too), "Some people don't like the rain, but I think it's beautiful." I agree with Calvin and you, I love the rain. Life is Good :)
