The other day, over cereal, William said, "Mom, you are beautiful." And he meant it. Because to William, beauty is sitting on the ground and playing cars with him, and helping him take deep breaths when he is overwhelmed by big crowds, or doing a special load of laundry so he can wear his Jake and the Neverland Pirates shirt to his friend's house, and tucking him in bed as many times as it takes.
Beauty is a lot of things to me. It's a two year old that fits perfectly in the crook of my arm while I read to him, or getting play by play updates about Caity's book company, or waking early with Johnny and hearing his 1st grade wisdom, or William saying "Stop it now. Look at me. I love you, mom!" It's the way a hug feels when John gets home from work, or when we makie eye contact over a child's head and laugh because we can read eachother's thoughts. Beauty is feeling the breeze brush off the beach waves; it's an answered prayer, sitting down to dinner with my family, a clean house Saturday night, and picking up where you left off with an old friend. Essentially what I'm getting at is this: life is beautiful. These pictures are low quality, blurry and insignificant. However, when I took them I saw some value in the moment that I wanted to capture "the happy" I felt. So there is some beauty in that. These little moments matter.
