A Pillow Sack Race

Apparently forgetfulness penetrated through all three of Johnny's layers of clothing today...because yes, ladies and gentlemen, Johnny is escapading around my home shirtless. Again. I told him to get a shirt on and he was like "Mom. (long deliberate pause.) I got muscles. I the HULK, Mom."  Well excuse me, Mr. Hulk, how dare I try to clothe my child.

Meanwhile, Caity is singing her little heart out into one walkie-talkie with the other pressed up against her ear.  I looked at her funny and she giggled and said, "What? Someone's gotta listen to me and you already heard this song!"  Taking care of business.

Grateful for John today. Well, grateful for him every day really...just today, especially.  Sometimes it just hits me like a ton of bricks, you know?  I just want to storm my way through Denver and kidnap him so we can go play together.  But I suppose I should be responsible....and get stuff done.

A part of me knows I need to get my house ready for the missionaries who are coming over for dinner, and the other part of me is like,  "They're 19 year old boys, like they are really going to come up stairs and be like, 'Wow, Sister Brassell, did you mop your floor today? It looks fantastic.'"

Oh well.  Off I go. Hi ho, hi ho.

And oh my goodness- people- Johnny is wearing a shirt! A dirty shirt...but a shirt. He looks so dressed and clothed and stuff- you wouldn't believe it.  I just asked him why and he said, "You said put a shirt on. I'm mad. But I'm OK."

Now I feel guilty I haven't said anything about William.  I like him and he says "mama" now....but only when he is angry- haha. Cute boy.

Caity Likes Pushing the Stroller.

Basically, William fell down the stairs last night.  It was traumatic for everyone who was present, with the exception of Johnny. Who thought it was funny. Hm. Sometimes, I worry for that boy's soul.  You see, had it been his stuffed dog, Petch, he would have been nothing short of hysterical.  As I chased William's little body down the stairs he kept rolling just barely outside of grasp! Luckily, I think he is is A-OK.  Time will tell though.  I think he was reaching for a cheerio....that Johnny threw down the stairs....now that I type this out, I am really concerned over Johnny's soul, except not really
Lately, Johnny has been filling his little back pack to the brim and hiking around the house going on some adventure or other.  The back pack is bigger than he is and he kind of reminds me of a little ant...but rather than step on him, I want to just squeeze the living daylights out of him, but he usually is like, "Mooo-om! I'm busy over here!"  I have been trying to train him to consistently wear a shirt, like a civilized boy.  Today he came up to me wearing three shirts. "Sometimes I forget to keep my shirt on, and so if I take off my shirt- wow, there's another one!"
Caity was like, "Johnny you are so smart!"
I'm like, "How the heck do you forget to keep your shirt on?"
Cute boy.
For about 30 minutes a day, regardless of how much "running time" he gets outside, Johnny runs back and forth through our apartment.  He strikes a starting position and says, "On my mark, bet sit, and GO!" Repeated 100 times.
Caity believes she has discovered the highest number known to man: 1,000,049.  Many times a day she will say something like, "Mom, I am hungry plus one million and forty nine!" or "I love you one million and forty nine."   I straightened her hair on Friday, and she looked in the mirror and exclaimed, "Holy Rapunzel!"
John is liking work these days, and a happy husband makes for a happy Mary, if you know what I mean.  I'll tell you what though- I was pretty dang excited for the weekend so we could see him for a couple of days.
Caity just told me that Johnny broke a crayon.
Correction: Johnny just informed me that it was actually his dog, Petch.
Caity just put Petch on time-out.
I love how William will crawl up to me and climb up my leg. So I took a picture:
In church on Sunday, I was playing "Patty Cake" with him and he laughed like I was the funniest person in the whole world, it is good that he grasps this at a young age.

These kids hide under this grapevine while they wait for us to unlock the door every day.

We went for a walk on Sunday. John and I were accidentally twinners! How embarressing, I mean cool. In the background they are playing quidditch, people. Like for real.  John, the hater of anything that involves an imagination :) (kidding...he just doesn't prefer it), was like- "OK, that is weird."  I jumped to their defense because Harry Potter is just something that needs defending...and was said, "Whatever I think it is cool, I would totally go play." As we got closer, there was a sign welcoming anyone to join in. John looked at me curiously to see if I would follow through.  I looked at the quidditch enthusiasts running with brooms lodged between their legs and well, I guess I didn't think it was that cool....because we kept walking.  Some day maybe. With people I know maybe.  John said he would play if hover boards were involved...I started naming all the people it would be fun to play with and he started laughing and said, "Yeah, none of them would do that in public." BAH! Well, I just may start making invitations to prove him wrong. But probably not. Because I probably wouldn't do it public, myself. Maybe I'll have a big 'ole backyard some day!

It's going to be a good day.
William is up from his nap and is standing by the couch just chatting away to me.  Maybe he is telling me to get my tail in gear and take care of our house and eliminate what I call, "the weekend hangover." But that probably is not what he is saying at all...he is probably just telling me how good I smell after I go running and how flattering John's basketball shorts are on me. Yeah, William says all the right things sometimes. :)

Peter Pan Swag

To celebrate Friday, we went on a walk.
We followed the leader,
 chased our shadows,

 kept watch for Pirates,

and then found some pixie dust and took flight.

We can fly, we can fly, we can fly!
Here's to a good weekend!
:)

6-19-2014

Some days...
shirts are optional,
and cereal makes a good lunch,
and little brothers can teach big sisters all they need to know about their letters.
And some days little smiles and sticky hands are just enough to get me through.

Our Little Master William

William was so playful today.

We kept making ABC block towers and he would smile all big before he knocked them down and his shoulders would shake as he laughed about it. Caity and I couldn't make the towers fast enough for his greedy little bulldozing needs.  Meanwhile, Johnny was organizing all the blocks by letter and number, it was so cute.

Then, Johnny started playing a game with Will. Johnny would start on my bed, growl at Will, then bound towards him in these big exaggerated steps.  William would flinch and spin around and start crawling all fast and speedy, then dive into my lap and bury his face, giggling uncontrollably.  Johnny would tickle him then run back to my room and William would crawl after him and the whole escapade repeated itself over and over again- about 20-30 times. At some point, Caity joined in.  It is funny, as soon as we figure out a way to entertain that boy, we most certainly wear it out....then try it again the next day to see if it will work again!

This baby loves bananas.  He gets so excited when he see me peeling a banana. He will kick his little legs.  He refuses to let anyone feed him, so independent.  Today, he figured out how to turn around in his high chair, stand up and bounce up and down, holding on to the back of his chair.  That is how I found him, laughing and bouncing.  I put my hands out and said, "Are you all done?"  He stopped bouncing, smiled sheepishly, and slowly turned around and sat in his chair.  It was like he knew what I was saying! I asked him again if he was done, just to make sure and he grabbed some peas and started eating again.  It was the cutest thing that is probably only the cutest thing because I am in fact his mother.  John also thought it was the cutest thing though- but I don't know if that counts, because he is the father and all.

Anyway, it was a day of William.  We love our little guy!

When John got home and saw him, he noticed all sorts of new scrapes and bruises...I guess we played a little too hard. Poor guy!

His Daddy sure knows how to make him laugh!
wrestling with Dad after work.
In other news, I figured out how to load pictures from my camera today and have been catching up on old blog posts....so if you have time to kill and are interested...(mom)...here are some retro posts I finished today!
A Day of sight seeing in Seattle
I do have to warn you, since I had to write some of them from scratch, I was a little nostalgic and they are preeetty sappy! With probably way too many pictures and videos, haha. Oh well, I'll enjoy them anyhow! :)

Paper Eggs, S'mores, and Wrestle Mania

Well, William is officially nine months old and has been out of me longer than he was in.
To celebrate, he broke three teeth within an hour! Poor guy!
Speaking of teeth, Caity has an oval shaped bruise on her arm from when Johnny BIT her today- bit her. That was a special moment.
Yesterday, though, was just a great day.  I found a grocery store in the morning that was easy to get to (coming from a girl who took 2.5 hours in search of WalMart last week) and it was a nice, orderly store (coming from a mother of disorderly children-I can only handle so much chaos, you know.) It was a nice accomplishment finding that store.
When I got home, I mopped, I laundered, I cooked, and worked on reading with Caity. I even- get this- got ahead on some homework.  We went to the park and played, then got back home just in time to pick up John from work (I only got kinda lost once this time.) (and only almost ran through one red light.) (and only almost backed into one vehicle....while John watched with that "what are you doing?" look.) (whoops.)
Kids were bathed, dinner was consumed, William was put to sleep and we had Family Home Evening.
Caity spent all afternoon making up a game to play for Family Night...it involved giant colored Easter eggs on paper and tape...but she couldn't tell me what it was.  The anticipation was killing me. And her- she was beaming all day.
Johnny was in charge of music. So, we sang- you guessed it- The ABC's.

John gave a lesson about how we show God we are grateful for our bodies.
(At some point Johnny said he took care of his body by eating Popsicle.)
Then we played Caity's game that actually made sense this time.  She hid the paper eggs around the house and we had to find them, then hide them again.
(I can't find my phone or I would include a picture.)
For treat we made s'mores over our gas stove. It was so fun.
Then it was cuddle time with Dad...just kidding, they wrestled.

I went to bed exhausted, but the good kind of exhausted.

Take a Picture. It Will Last Longer.

"Hold Still," I said.
"Smile!" I said.
All I wanted was some pictures of the kids before church when they at least looked like little angels...
Why can't I ever seem to get that?
Haha...oh yeah...because this happens:
Ok, maybe we'll give William a bottle

"OK, that was good, let's see if we can get better one."

OK. That will do.

I am never doing this again.
Until next Sunday, anyway.
